Wellington boots and rubber gloves will be the wardrobe of choice on Wednesday 2 April for residents of Bennett Mews in Hyde, when they step out in force to make improvements to the grounds of their homes.

The event, which has been organised by Manchester & District Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, is designed to give residents the encouragement and empowerment to make a difference to their local environment.

The project is funded by an ‘Action Earth’ grant from the Environment Agency, enabling the purchase of the tools, equipment and materials needed, including flowers and hanging baskets that will adorn the Mews upon completion of the project. Action Earth has challenged local communities to identify ways in which they can protect and enhance their built and natural environment and M&D have stepped up to that challenge with real enthusiasm.

Commenting on the project, Diane Russell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for M&D said:

“We and the residents recognised that Bennett Mews was in need of a tidy up project. We have therefore organised something which we hope will not only help to improve the area in the short term, but will encourage everyone to keep it looking clean and litter free for future generations”.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for ‘Bennett Mews – Brighter Views’ should contact Diane Russell on Tel: 0161 149 6451.
