Cumbria Constabulary has supported Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group in securing an injunction on one of their tenant’s sons, Robert McMullan.

The 25 year old from Keswick has been known to the police for a number of years after he was arrested and charged with possessing both class A, B and C drugs and for destroying property in the locality of the premises.

Today the Court granted an injunction on Robert McMullan, which bans him from number 5, The Crescent for two years. This follows evidence gathered and supplied by the police, D&S and other residents. He was found to have repeatedly breached his Mum’s tenancy agreement and despite written and verbal warnings, had continued to cause a nuisance to her and neighbours.

The decision will put an end to his repeated drug offences at the property - both possessing and supplying drugs and anti-social behaviour in the vicinity, including damage to the D&S property and damage to a local shop. It will also allow his mother and other neighbours to continue their lives free of the trouble he has caused.

Commenting on the case, Robert Porter, Director at Derwent & Solway Housing Association said:

“This individual has caused trauma and upset for residents for a number of years and we welcome the courts decision to apply this injunction. Residents concerned with this case were contacted to attend a meeting regarding what to do about the anti-social behaviour and it is a great success for them as well. We continue to work in the best interests of our law-abiding residents who have every right to live peacefully in their homes”.

The order on Robert McMullan brings a successful conclusion to several years’ work for D&S and Cumbria Constabulary. Derwent & Solway have adjourned possession proceedings against Robert McMullan’s mother, which means that she is able to remain at the property.

Regarding the decision, Robert added:

“We will continue to support Mrs McMullan and any other resident who wishes to continue with their life free from menace and intimidation. This decision will hopefully signal a positive adjustment for Mrs McMullan for the future”.
