> Maplewood Makeover Work Imminent
With first time buyers facing an increasing struggle to gain a footing on an unpredictable property ladder, it should come as welcome news that a multi-million pound development of the former Maplewood complex in the Briarwood Avenue area of Macclesfield is due to commence this week, bringing with it the addition of much needed affordable homes to the area.
Moorlands Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group confirmed that demolition work at the site is underway as the first step in the £4.64 million scheme planned for Maplewood. The site will ultimately consist of 29 luxury apartments available for low cost home ownership and 12 new-build houses that will be offered to rent.
The regeneration of Macclesfield has always been an important issue for Moorlands Housing, who recognise the economic benefits of developing the town for the wider area and its residents. Moorlands have focussed on the area along with the support of Macclesfield Borough Council.
Mike Johnson, Director at Moorlands Housing said of the development:
“The addition of these brand new properties in Macclesfield will help local people struggling to purchase their first home. This is a major venture for Moorlands and Harvest Housing Group and will add to an already existing portfolio of quality, affordable homes across the region. We look forward to the completion of the development and to welcoming new residents.”
