> Success for GM Procure at Leading Employer Awards
The 2008 Greater Manchester Employer Coalition Awards were held at Manchester’s Midland Hotel last night with invitees celebrating yet another year of excellent employer practice in the region. GM Procure walked away as champions in their category at the grand event for their inspiring contribution to local employment.
The not-for-profit regeneration company were nominated within the ‘Reducing Re-offending Employer of the Year’ Category for their proactive efforts to reduce re-offending rates throughout Greater Manchester by employing ex-offenders and providing them with an invaluable ‘second-chance’.
Award Judges were looking for a company or individual who understands that business, individuals and society are all affected by people who re-offend, and that sustainable employment is a powerful lever for reducing the likelihood of an individual returning to crime. Over the past 12 months, Mike Brogan, the CEO of GM Procure and his team have been heavily influential in the development of key initiatives aimed at reducing re-offending including: providing input and guidance into a programme of vocational workshops within several regional prisons, linking them to groups of contractors, providing administrative work experience opportunities on release and ensuring that ex-offenders are amongst the disadvantaged groups eligible for recruitment.
Commenting on the accolade, GM Procure CEO, Mike Brogan said:
“We recognise the importance of assisting businesses and individuals facing difficulties in gaining contracts or employment for a variety of reasons. Providing training and employment opportunities for ex-offenders has a hugely positive impact on both the individuals and their communities”.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Employer Coalition and the fourth year of the prestigious Awards, which have become a major event in the corporate calendar, recognising and rewarding employers, partnerships and individuals who have demonstrated best practice towards their workforce.
