The Cumbria Debt Rescue and Money Advice Partnership (DRAMA) will be launching their Financial Inclusion Strategy at Reghed Theatre in Penrith on Wednesday 2nd July at 10am.

DRAMA is a broad partnership involving representatives from the county’s Credit Unions, Social Landlords, Local Authorities and the Citizens Advice Bureau. It has been established to help people who feel financially excluded, many of whom are living on low incomes and cannot access mainstream financial products.

The Cumbria Financial Inclusion Strategy will aim to help those affected by financial exclusion by enabling them to open a basic working bank account and gain access to good individual financial advice and counselling. Over the next five years, the strategy’s objectives include providing people with access to more affordable insurance and credit, as well as encouraging more people to build up their savings.

Robert Porter, Chair of the DRAMA Steering Group, commented:
“The partners involved in DRAMA are all committed to helping provide as much support and advice as possible to those affected by financial exclusion. This exclusion imposes real costs on individuals and their families, and often affects the most vulnerable people in our society”.

The launch of the Strategy begins at 10am with registration and drinks. Speakers will include Robert Porter, who will guide guests through the history of DRAMA and its key objectives, and Jim Youdale, who will speak about the vital role of the Credit Unions. Mark Fryer will then talk about the impact DRAMA is having on those residing in the most disadvantaged areas.
