The first apartments at Avantage’s new Extra Care development on New Grosvenor Road in Ellesmere Port have been taken by future residents keen to secure a home in the purpose built develpment

The economic downturn doesn’t seem to have had an effect on the residents of Ellesmere Port. Just weeks after the price list and property information became available well over 10 per cent of the 71 self-contained Hollymere apartments are now successfully reserved.

The Hollymere development offers safe and secure accommodation for people over the age of 60. Future residents have listed a variety of reasons for choosing the development including the availability of Extra Care whenever needed and a network of social activities. The development gives residents the space to enjoy hobbies such as gardening, as each apartment is assigned an allotted piece of land.

Avantage, one of the UK’s leading Extra Care companies, is building the apartments which are due for completion in March 2009, and the same company will then go on to manage the site.

Claire Henning, sales manager for Avantage, commented: “We are delighted by the amount of enquiries we have received. The sales at Hollymere have already exceeded expectations and it’s a sign that the apartments are proving popular.

“The site really does have something to offer for everyone. There will be a calendar of social events and specially designed selection of shops and cafes on site to act as a central hub for activity.”

The purpose-built development is designed specifically for people over the age of 60. Each self-contained apartment is available to rent, buy and part-buy through a shared-ownership scheme, with 24 hour on-call care available for all residents when required. Extra Care housing provides additional support to people living in their own homes, with facilities designed to improve the options for this age group by allowing them to stay active, make new friends and remain in their own home for as long as possible.

Once built, non-residents over 60 from Ellesmere Port will be able to use all the facilities on site, which include the bar, cafe, hair salon, gym, library, computer suite and village hall. A range of social activities will be organised regularly, involving all members of the community.
