Young residents of the Hammersley Hayes neighbourhood in Cheadle, prepared for a colourful winter on Saturday 20 September as they filled numerous wooden plant containers with floral delights for the community to enjoy.
The event was organised by Moorlands Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group, following consultation with residents.
Located by the planters on a nearby wall is a very original sign, which will brighten up the area, thanks to a group of local children who entered an art competition organised by Moorlands Housing. The children, aged 1-9, were asked to draw pictures of ‘things that make you happy’ and the resulting images were then compiled by Leek Signs to make an impressive fixed design on the wall. All the children received certificates and three overall winners were presented with a £10 high street voucher each for their hard work.
Ideas to further brighten up the wall and surrounding area will be discussed with residents in the forthcoming weeks.
Commenting on the neighbourhood improvements, Moorland’s Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer, Vanessa Messham said:
“It’s great that residents are coming forward and telling us what they would like to see in place to enhance their estate and we are able to then look at working with residents on implementing their ideas. It’s wonderful to see such community sprit amongst residents, in working together, turning their ideas into reality’
Moorlands Housing now have plans to turn a small garden area within the neighbourhood into a vegetable and flower patch specifically for local children to maintain and enjoy. Following resident consultation they also aim to organise further landscape improvements that will become a garden designated for more senior residents.
