The laws apply to all non-domestic properties including offices, sheltered or residential schemes and buildings with communal or shared access. We are therefore surveying all these properties. The laws do not yet apply to domestic properties. But as a responsible landlord, we believe we should do all we can to ensure the health and safety of all our residents. This section explains what we are doing about asbestos in your home. Please do not worry - the risks are extremely low and we take any necessary actions quickly and safely.

Am I at risk?

Asbestos is only a risk to health if fibres are released into the air and breathed in. It is now illegal to put asbestos into new buildings or renovations, but it was widely used in the past and much of it is still in place.
As long as it in good condition and is left undisturbed and undamaged, there is little risk.

Does this affect my home?

Some of our houses and flats probably have some asbestos-containing materials. These were probably used as fire protection. Usually they will be in areas you wouldn't normally go into, such as roof spaces. We have no reason to believe that these materials are a health risk if they have not been damaged or disturbed.

What are we going to do?

We will survey a small sample of our homes to see what precautions are needed. This will enable us to see whether any problems exist across our various types of property. If your home is chosen for the survey, and it is convenient for you when our surveyors call, we hope you will let them have access.

If you are concerned about your home and would like more explanation, please call Harvest Response on LoCall 0845 345 0272.
