Moorlands
Staffordshire-based Moorlands Housing became the latest member of Harvest in April 2007, bringing 2,800 extra homes into the Group.

Moorlands Housing works with Local Authorities and residents to provide affordable housing and neighbourhood services to support sustainable communities in Leek, Cheadle, Biddulph, High Peak and Cheshire.

Tackling homelessness

One of Harvests priorities is to tackle worklessness, and our approach is to work closely with local Council partners so that we understand their needs and can help them deliver their strategies.

Moorlands Housing is on the Council’s Homelessness Strategy Panel, and now owns and operates the Stepping Stones Hostel for the ‘Excluded Families Project’. This project not only provides a home to people who otherwise would have been homeless but also the support they need to help them keep their home.

Residents taking the lead in their neighbourhood.

In Biddulp, BRIC (Biddulp Resource and Information Centre) is a drop-in service open to anyone living in the community. It was set up and is run by local residents with support from Moorlands Housing. Help available through BRIC includes:

• Advice on understanding bills
• A ‘signposting’ service to refer people to specialist agencies
• Children’s after-school club
• Advice on pensions and independent living for older people.
