> Major New Housing Development Planned For Macclesfield
Moorlands Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group has announced that construction of a major new development of quality social housing will commence in Macclesfield, Cheshire in January 2009.
The scheme will be the largest that Moorlands has ever delivered in the town, having been primarily involved in the provision of homes in the Staffordshire Moorlands Area. The regeneration of Macclesfield is an important issue for Moorlands Housing, who recognise the economic benefits of developing the town for the wider area and its residents. Moorlands have focussed on the area along with the support of Macclesfield Borough Council.
Moorlands Housing has received grant funding of £1,363,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency (formerly known as The Housing Corporation) towards the project that is set to cost a total of £3.8 million upon completion.
The scheme will provide essential, high quality social rental accommodation in Macclesfield and properties will consist of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 2 and 3 bedroom houses, all designed and constructed to the highest specifications by Architects Ainsley Gommon and construction company Cruden.
Prior to being purchased from Macclesfield Borough Council by Moorlands in February 2008, the site was a former sheltered housing complex that had remained unoccupied for some time. The introduction of the new Moorlands homes to the location will ensure that the area becomes a thriving neighbourhood once more.
Commenting on the development, Steve Barker, Senior Development Officer for Moorlands said:
“We would like to extend our thanks to both Macclesfield Borough Council’s Housing Enabling team and the Homes and Communities Agency who have provided incredible support for this scheme. We look forward to welcoming building contractors, Cruden on site in January and to the completion of this significant project for Moorlands Housing and the town of Macclesfield”.
Moorlands Housing is also currently working with Macclesfield Borough Council to deliver essential affordable housing in rural areas of the town.
