We operate over 30 sheltered housing schemes across the North West of England. All our sheltered housing schemes are safe and secure and offer the additional ‘peace of mind’ of knowing that support is available if you need it.
Applicants for sheltered housing must normally be aged 55 and above. However, in certain circumstances, we will consider younger people whose circumstances are such that they may benefit from the accommodation and services available.
Sheltered housing schemes offer the following benefits and services:
- A Scheme Manager available on-site during the week
- a 24 hour emergency alarm service, providing back up every day of the year, whenever the Scheme Manager is off site
- safety features, such as CCTV, secure door entry and fire detection systems
- a communal lounge and kitchen for social and leisure activities
- landscaped gardens
- a guest room for friends and family to stay, provided at a nominal charge.
All our sheltered housing schemes currently have dedicated Scheme Managers who provide a range of housing and support services to the tenants. Our Scheme Managers work Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm. Out of hours, advice and assistance can easily be accessed by using the emergency alarm system which is in all our sites. This system is monitored remotely when the Scheme Manager is off site.
Some of the things our Scheme Mangers can help you with include:
- Maintaining regular contact with all tenants
- undertaking, and regularly reviewing, individual assessments of support and care needs and agreeing a support plan with you
- providing advice and information on welfare benefits
- accessing aids and adaptations to your home
- providing information on local amenities and services
- accessing personal care services, where necessary
- facilitating a range of social activities.

Extra Care Sheltered Housing
We have developed a number of Extra Care sheltered housing developments, in partnership with various Adult Social Care departments.
Extra Care offers many of the same services and facilities available in our standard sheltered housing schemes but also have integrated care services available to those who have been assessed as needing them. For people requiring higher levels of care and support in order to remain independent, Extra Care offers a viable alternative to residential care.
Our Extra Care develoments are situated in the following areas:
- Lancashire: Ainscough Brook House, Preston
- Bannister Brook House, Leyland
- Hyndbrook House, Accrington
- Stockport: St Lesmo Court, Edgeley
- Warrington: Mosslands, Birchwood
Due to the way Extra Care is commissioned, different eligibility criteria apply. If you would like further information on these schemes, please contact Harvest Response on

For people requiring less support, we also offer a range of housing that has been designated, or specially designed, for older people. This accommodation tends to be self-contained flats; however, some bungalows are also available.
A key feature of this accommodation is that a hard wired or dispersed emergency alarm system, often referred to as a ‘community alarm’, is provided. This equipment is designed to provide residents with additional ‘peace of mind’ and provides a direct link to a monitoring centre, enabling the necessary assistance to be summoned in an emergency.
Anyone aged 55 and above can apply and we will also consider applications from younger people whose needs are such that they would benefit from the additional services available.
