Frontis, a member of Harvest Housing Group will be holding an official ‘turf cutting’ ceremony at Birchwood’s Oakwood Local Park next week to mark the start of construction work of a play area that will be fully accessible to able bodied children and children with physical disabilities. The play park will be the first of its kind in the Warrington area.

Representatives from Warrington Borough Council, Councillors and staff from Birchwood Town Council, pupils from Birchwood C of E School, Foxwood School, local residents and members of the Friends of Oakwood Park will join members of the board and staff from Frontis, who were on the steering group for the park development, at the event.

Together the various parties secured over £100,000 for the development of the play park in 2008 and have since been granted over £40,000 from Wren (Waste Recycling Environmental Limited).

Bernadette Bell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer at Frontis commented:
“Since residents approached us to build a play park of this kind we have been working in conjunction with all parties to secure funding, decide a theme and discuss the features of the park. It has truly been a resident led project. We are delighted to be able to say that this park is unique to Warrington and look forward to its completion for local children and families”.

Frontis will be continuing their work to raise money for Oakwood Local Park to enable the addition of more facilities for the community.
