> Cumbrian Pupils Get On Board with Community Website
Pupils from three Cumbrian schools will attend a professional workshop on Thursday 5 March designed to assist them in a new venture that will see them designing and publishing a ‘Youth Zone’ within community website, i4 Cumbria.
i4 Cumbria is delivered by Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, in partnership with West Lakes Renaissance and the North West Regional Development Fund and offers Cumbrian residents free access to information about public services and activities in the community and beyond. It is divided into topical zones such as money, health employment, education, youth and others.
Journalists, Marketing Professionals and Internet Designers will attend the event on Thursday to pass on their knowledge in order to assist the pupils with the ‘Youth Editorial Partnership’ that will ultimately see them contributing to the internet portal.
The i4 Cumbria Youth Zone aspires to look at the issues young people face and offer and advice and support on topics such as anti-social behaviour and respect. The site will also advise where to go to for guidance and support on topics such as those surrounding money, drugs and alcohol related problems. Derwent & Solway Housing Association are now looking to develop the Youth Zone by involving young people in the creation of its content to make it more relevant and attractive to its audience.
Nick Kennon, Business Development Manager at Derwent & Solway said:
“The website has proved extremely popular amongst Cumbrian residents who find it vital for gaining access to information and advice on a wide range of subjects. The Youth Zone is proving a hit with the younger community but we feel that its true potential has not yet been exploited. What it really needs are people of the genre that it is aimed at to make it somewhere that younger people wish to visit regularly”.
He added:
“We are delighted to be welcoming a group of professionals to the Youth Editorial Partnership event and have no doubt that their expertise will be invaluable to the young people as they commence the project”.
The Youth Editorial Partnership panel will be made up of 12 pupils from (details of involved schools to be included here).
