To celebrate European Neighbours Day on 26 May, residents of The Thimbles in Rochdale will come together tomorrow (19 May) to put up bird and bat boxes to help protect local species and will also be planting and hanging some baskets to add a splash of summer colour to the neighbourhood.
The community event, which has been organised by Manchester & District Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, is designed to give residents the opportunity to make a difference to their local environment.
The project is funded by an ‘Action Earth’ grant from the Environment Agency. Action Earth has challenged local communities to identify ways in which they can protect and enhance their built and natural environment and Manchester &District Housing Association have stepped up to that challenge with real enthusiasm, having previously organised similar schemes in other neighbourhoods.
Commenting on the project, Diane Russell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for M&D said:
“Our residents always react eagerly to the neighbourhood events that we organise and we expect a great attendance this year. The event will not only create an attractive area, it will hopefully help to provide shelter for some of our local wildlife as well”.
If you would like to attend the event, please contact Rachel Vinchi at the Bird Consultancy.
