> Manchester & District Housing Association Create a Cleaner and Greener Environment
Work boots and rubber gloves were the wardrobe of choice on Tuesday 2 June for a group of Tameside residents when they stepped out in force to make improvements to their community.
The event, which was organised by Manchester & District Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, was designed to give residents of Turner Gardens in Hyde the encouragement and empowerment to make a positive difference to their local environment.
Residents came together to clear litter and plant hanging baskets and neighbourhood borders to add a splash of summer colour to the neighbourhood.
The project was funded by an ‘Action Earth’ grant from the Environment Agency. Action Earth has challenged local communities to identify ways in which they can protect and enhance their built and natural environment and Manchester &District Housing Association have stepped up to that challenge with real enthusiasm, having previously organised similar schemes in other neighbourhoods.
Commenting on the project, Diane Russell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for M&D said:
“Our residents always react eagerly to the neighbourhood events that we organise and we had a great attendance once again this year. The event has neatened and brightened up the neighbourhood for all our residents to enjoy”.
