A brand new development of 9 bungalows has been awarded the much-coveted “Secure by Design” accreditation.  Moorclose Croft in Workington received the award from David Thompson the Architectural Liaison Officer for West Cumbria Police on Thursday 2 July.

The awards are only given to developments that meet very stringent guidelines for safety and security.  Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, worked closely with the Police to design out areas where criminals could loiter undetected and used materials with the highest awards for security within the fabric of the dwellings.

Ben Brinicombe, Property Regeneration Manager for Derwent & Solway said, “Its great to see Moorclose Croft achieving this accreditation, the safety and security of our residents is paramount to the Association.”

The Moorclose Croft development has also achieved accreditation under the Code for Sustainable Homes at Level 3. This is only given to developments showing very good performance on energy saving throughout each dwelling.

Following the presentation by West Cumbria Police, board members of Derwent & Solway Housing Association spent time chatting to new residents at Moorclose Croft and then went on to visit a number of other D&S developments and areas designated for regeneration in Workington and Maryport.
