> Warrington Residents Encouraged to Get on their Bikes…and Put on their Boots!
A walking group set up by Frontis Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group, is going from strength to strength thanks to the enthusiasm of organisers at the Housing Association and recent publicity received in a magazine produced by Warrington PCT and Warrington Borough Council.
‘Bikes and Boots Magazine’ is a joint venture between Warrington PCT and Warrington Borough Council and is aimed at promoting the benefits of physical activity to Warrington residents.
Frontis have been organising their series of health walks for Warrington residents since April 2008, departing from Oakwood Local Park in Birchwood. They last from forty minutes to one hour and follow various pleasant routes through the area, including Oakwood Local Park to Risley Moss.
Everyone is welcome on the walks and each one ends with complimentary tea and coffee at the Nelson Quarterdeck Pub in Birchwood.
Commenting, Bernadette Bell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer at Frontis said:
“We have recently seen numbers in the walking group double from ten to twenty people and are delighted that local people are so enthusiastic about taking part. We were pleased to hear that Warrington PCT and Warrington Borough Council decided to produce this magazine to promote healthy lifestyles and we are equally committed to encouraging local residents to take part in physical activity. We hope that more people will come and join our wonderful group”.
June, who recently joined the group said:
“I am so pleased I found out about this group through Bikes and Boots Magazine. I have not walked as a hobby for years and these walks mean that I now get out and about and enjoy the lovely area that I live in. The group and the magazine are inspirations to me”.
Anyone interested in joining one of the walks can simply turn up on Mondays from 10.30 am at Oakwood Local Park, Admirals Road, Birchwood in Warrington. Further information can be obtained by contacting Bernadette Bell on Tel: 01925 856 680.
