A group of Crewe youngsters who are part of the Manchester & District Housing Association Junior Neighbourhood Warden Scheme are due to gain an insight into what it is like to be a police officer on Thursday 10 September when they visit Crewe Police Station.
The partnership between M&D, a member of Harvest Housing Group, and Cheshire Constabulary began earlier in 2009 when the Housing Association agreed to job-shadowing placements for a number of student officers as part of their initial training.
Sergeant Mike Whittaker of the Cheshire Constabulary Tutor Unit will talk to the Junior Neighbourhood Wardens about the training involved in becoming a police officer and give them a tour of the station.
The Junior Neighbourhood Warden Scheme is a Manchester & District Housing Association initiative, in partnership with Cheshire East Borough Council and the Cheshire East Borough Council Community Wardens. It has been designed to develop a sense of community pride amongst young people by providing constructive activities that benefit the local area. Previous activities have included a ‘Pick and Skip’ event and a visit to Crewe’s Blue Watch fire fighters to discuss bonfire night safety. The Wardens received recognition for their hard work and dedication in 2008 when they received a Mayor’s Oscar Award.
