Anti Social Behaviour Injunction Order Extended For Workington Man
Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, confirmed this week that an emergency Interim Injunction Order that was granted against Mr. Stephen Leece in August 2009 at Whitehaven County Court has been extended for twelve months.
The order was granted under anti social behaviour act legislation at a hearing on 15th September.
The terms of the order prohibit Mr. Leece, 20, from behaving anti socially, using or threatening to use violence and from entering the Frostoms area of Workington.
The terms also apply to the Frostoms estate in South Workington and the immediate locality and carry a power of arrest, which means that Mr. Leece will be arrested if found in breach of the Order.
Derwent & Solway Housing Association’s Community Safety Team worked with local police officers following a number of reports in the Frostoms area of drunken and threatening behaviour by Mr. Leece. Evidence of the reports and logs made to the police was used to obtain an emergency Order on 25th August 2009 requiring Mr. Leece to leave the estate within 30 minutes of the Injunction being served.
The Community Safety Team and local police and PCSO’s then visited homes speaking to residents and delivering letters about the Order, telling them how to report any breaches in confidence. As a result residents reported that Mr. Leece was continuing to visit the exclusion area and behave in an anti social manner, which then resulted in his arrest.
On 14th September Mr Leece was found by the court to be in breach of the Order and was given a 3-month custodial sentence, suspended for 6 months. The following day the court granted a full Order against Mr. Leece for 12 months.
Local Community Police Officer Carolyn Orr who worked with the housing Association on the case commented:
“By working together with Derwent & Solway Housing Association, we have been able to reassure residents that we will take action to respond to the needs of the community by excluding Mr. Leece from their area. We will continue to work together to monitor the Order and we will take swift action if we receive reports that the Order has been breached”.
Director of Derwent & Solway Housing Association Robert Porter said:
“We work very closely with other agencies to provide support for people who need it, but will not hesitate to take swift action dealing with anti-social behaviour when required. We will continue to work on behalf of our residents to ensure safe and secure neighbourhoods”.
