Workington Man Jailed For Twice Breaching Injunction Order

Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, confirmed today that Mr. Stephen Leece, 20 of Mona Road, Salterbeck has been given a 3-month jail sentence by Whitehaven County Court, following his arrest for twice breaching an Injunction Order.

The Injunction Order was originally granted against Mr. Leece under anti social behaviour act legislation in August 2009 and prohibited him from behaving anti socially, using or threatening to use violence and from entering the Frostoms area of Workington.

Mr. Leece was arrested inside the exclusion area on 13 September and received a 3-month suspended prison sentence. He was also seen in the exclusion area on 29 September and this evidence helped to secure the most recent jail sentence.

Derwent & Solway Housing Association’s Community Safety Team originally worked with local police officers following a number of reports in the Frostoms area of drunken and threatening behaviour by Mr. Leece.

The Community Safety Team and local police and PCSO’s then visited homes speaking to residents and delivering letters about the Order, telling them how to report any breaches in confidence. Neighbourhood Officer, PC Carolyn Orr said:
“Residents in the community have enabled us to secure this positive outcome thanks to their vigilance and feedback following sightings of Mr Leece in the Exclusion area.”

Director of Derwent & Solway Housing Association, Robert Porter said:
“We work very closely with other agencies to provide support for people who need it, but will not hesitate to take swift action dealing with anti-social behaviour when required. This is an excellent result for the residents of South Workington and we hope it will send the message that any breaches of such orders will not be tolerated”.
