Moorlands Customers Have More Choice About Where They Live

Moorlands Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council are this week reminding existing and new housing customers that they are now able to express an interest in properties they would like to move to through a convenient ‘Choice Based Lettings’ Scheme.

The Scheme is a new way of letting social housing across Staffordshire Moorlands and gives customers more choice about where they live.

Properties will be advertised online at www.moorlandshomechoice.co.uk or in Moorlands Housing’s and Council’s Connect offices. Customers wishing to move are placed into one of four bands according to their housing needs and are able to express an interest in particular properties by making bids on the website or in person.

Computer access is available for anyone wishing to access Staffordshire Homechoice at Moorlands Housing offices and any of Staffordshire Moorlands Council’s Connect offices. Moorlands Housing will also offer free Internet advice for those requiring it.

The property advert will tell customers all about the property, for example, how many bedrooms, what the rent is, who the landlord is and any restrictions. All of the registered interests for a property are recorded in priority order by band and time on the register.

After properties are advertised for a week, Moorlands Housing will access the list of households who have expressed an interest in each property. The household in the most housing need (i.e. has the highest band rating) and who has been on the housing register the longest are then contacted by Moorlands Housing to arrange a verification interview before moving into their new home.
