> National Playday Event at Northside Play Park
Derwent & Solway Housing Association and Northside Community Centre are inviting local residents to join them at Northside Play Park, Hillcrest on Wednesday 3rd August to celebrate national Playday 2011.
Taking place between 1pm and 3pm the event will include a disco, refreshments, activities for children of all ages, and the opportunity for children to enjoy the new play equipment recently installed at the Play Park. Funded by Derwent & Solway and the Cumbria Housing Partners the new equipment includes two new sets of swings and a spinner, as well as an adventure trail with stepping-stones, wobble board and zig zag rope.
Workington Town Rugby League club will officially open the playday. The head coach will be attending with a top player to open the event and put on some rugby drills and activities for the children.
Katharine Dunbar, Project & Regeneration Officer for Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, said; “Northside Play Park provides a safe and fun environment for children to play outdoors, which is important for their health, well-being and development. This is a great day out for all the family, and we hope local residents will come and join us.”
Representatives from Derwent & Solway and Northside Community Centre will be attending, along with key people from the local community, including Christine Clark, Locality Health Improvement Specialist (Allerdale and Carlisle) from the Primary Care Trust.
The day is also being supported with donations from Pentagon Chemical Specialists and Hydro Ellay Enfield Limited, and the activities for children under 5 have been organised by Action for Children.
The event at Northside Play Park is one of hundreds being held nationwide to celebrate Playday 2011. Playday is a national awareness raising campaign coordinated by Play England, and this year supported by Savlon. The campaign aims to highlight unprecedented restrictions on children’s opportunities to play, and encourages action so that children can play out more.
The National Play Day event will take place at Northside Play Park, Hillcrest on Wednesday 3 August, 1pm – 3pm.
