A group of residents, from Haregate have been busy preparing planters to grow their own fruit and vegetables thanks to funding from Haregate Environmental Community Group, and support from local partners including Moorlands Housing.

The Haregate Environmental Community Group received £1,000 funding from Staffordshire County Council’s Community Well Being fund to provide social housing residents with the facilities to plant and grow their own produce in their gardens to promote healthy living.

Staff from Moorlands Housing, Age UK and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust helped the residents to deliver the project, supplying planters, compost, tools and fruit and vegetable seeds.

Gavin McAlister, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer at Moorlands Housing said; “We're delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project which promotes healthy living for local residents in such a sustainable way. Growing your own healthy food is a great way to help keep fit and well, and I'd encourage anyone to take part.”

This ongoing scheme is open to all residents in Haregate and is completely free. If you would like further information, please contact Gavin McAlister at Moorlands Housing 01538 380 615 or email
