Moorlands Housing, a member of Harvest Housing Group, has begun a refurbishment programme to upgrade its temporary accommodation, investing £5,000 in each of the 5 units.

The temporary accommodation units are used to house people made homeless through a wide variety of circumstances including domestic violence, repossession, intimidation or where their home has become uninhabitable due to incidents such a fire or flood.

The refurbishment of each unit will include modernisation of the décor, new furniture and landscaping of the garden to make the units feel homely for residents.

Gavin McAlister, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Moorlands Housing, said: “Residents often move into these units in difficult circumstances and we want to ensure that they are as warm and welcoming as possible. This refurbishment programme will significantly enhance the quality of the units and provide residents with that extra bit of comfort.”

Cllr Andrew Hart, portfolio holder for regeneration and housing said: “We applaud Moorlands Housing’s ongoing investment in its housing stock. By committing to the highest standards of accommodation, Moorlands Housing is playing a key role in helping us achieve our aim of enhanced quality of life for vulnerable people through the provision of safe, secure, high-quality accommodation. We share Moorlands Housing’s conviction that people in need deserve the best possible services we can provide.”

One unit has now been completed and was inspected by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and staff from Moorlands Housing. The full programme of refurbishment is due for completion by the end of the year.
