Eaves Brook, a member of the Harvest Housing Group, were short-listed for the Customer Frontline award at the National Housing Federation’s iNbiz Awards last week, thanks to employee, Martyn Hyslop.

As Estate Officer for West View in Haslingden, Martyn has been instrumental in the area’s development, which has been transformed in recent years from a struggling neighbourhood into one that is thriving with an extremely positive future. It is Martyn’s vital input and dedication to the whole community that saw him nominated for the prestigious award.

The awards, hosted by comedienne and writer Rhona Cameron at a prestigious gala ceremony at Birmingham’s ICC, were created to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Housing Associations.

As Julie Fadden, Director of Manchester & District, comments:

“Housing Associations perform an essential role within the community and this is solely down to the commitment and hard work of the staff involved. I am delighted that Martyn’s incredible efforts have been recognised and am proud to say that he is one of many exceptional team members here at Eaves Brook.”

Although Martyn narrowly missed out on winning the award, his achievements are to the benefit of all West View residents. He is a favourite within the community due to his customer friendly approach and his ability for achieving sustainable improvements. His passion for the job has helped turn the area around, by tackling various issues such as the abandonment of properties, the under-reporting of crime and the lack of social activities.

His efforts to visually enhance the neighbourhood through landscaping and by painting a mural in the children’s play area, an attraction in itself, has encouraged many residents to undertake their own environmental improvements.

As the first point of contact for both local residents and agencies about any neighbourhood issue, Martyn is an integral part of the community and he now looks forward to furthering the developments he has already made, in the future.
