> Moor Nook Primary is Top of the Class
Eaves Brook, a member of Harvest Housing Group, is proud to sponsor an exciting project to help young people at Moor Nook Primary School in Ribbleton, Preston stay safe.
Young people are to be given access to an exciting range of learning materials from the Children’s Safety Education Foundation. This is a new initiative aimed at helping the children of Moor Nook stay safe.
The resources include bright and colourful books, based around a character called “Will Powers”. Growing up is all about making decisions. Will Powers helps younger children from 5-7 years make the right decisions. He helps young people and teachers explore issues around safety, choices and rules. Topics are approached in a no nonsense manner so that young people are encouraged to talk about issues such as health and staying safe with parents and teachers.
The older children will be provided with a book about Bullying. This provides lots of information and enjoyable exercises to help teachers and children look at what it’s like to be bullied and what it’s like to be a bully.
This is one of many initiatives at the school, which is one of the first schools in Preston to enjoy extended school status. This means that the school actively works with the wider community and parents as well as the children themselves.
Suzanne Allen, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer from Eaves Brook says:
“We are proud to support Moor Nook Primary School as it is an excellent school. The school is innovative and really encourages
the young people to enjoy school. This programme will help the children learn all about making safe choices throughout life”.
She adds:
“This is part of a wider initiative to support the community. We are also supporting a new community building which organises all types of events for people, young and old. We have also benefited from significant funds to help pump prime physical improvements at our properties near the school from One Voice Neighbourhood Management and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, which has really helped to boost the area”.
Heather Horne, Head Teacher at the school says:
“We really appreciate the support of Eaves Brook. As an extended school we want to foster relationships with the local community and encourage parents to get involved in learning too. This resource is excellent as it also encourages parents to discuss safety issues with their own children. We value all our young people and want them to lead happy and healthy lives”
