Green fingered residents of Offerton took part in a ‘plant it’ day on Thursday (19th May) to help improve the local area and make it more colourful this summer.

The event, organised by Manchester & District Housing Association, along with M.A.D.O.C.G. (Mum’s & Dad’s Offerton Community Group), was to give people an interest in their environment and the area in which they live.

On Thursday morning members of the community, young and old, came along to the grassed area between Marlhill Close and Dilworth Court in Offerton, bringing with them all sorts of containers, such as washing up bowls and old buckets, which they transformed into colourful hanging baskets and plant tubs for their gardens.

Organiser Jan Brown, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Manchester & District says:

“This was a shared activity for everyone to get involved in, and something from which the whole community will benefit from. Everyone got really involved and judging by all the hard work that residents put in, we’ll have the best kept gardens in Stockport!”

Local gardeners were on hand to offer tips and point beginners in the right direction while Manchester & District and M.A.D.O.C.G. provided all the compost and plants that residents needed to put Offerton in full bloom this summer.

M.A.D.O.C.G. is an active group of residents in Offerton who look at ways to improve the local area and promote the well being of all residents.
