> Multi-Cultural Celebrations in Manchester
Manchester’s first Multicultural Awareness Day was held yesterday at the Shrewsbury Street Centre in Old Trafford, hosted by Manchester & District Housing Association.
Staff from Manchester & District, a member of Harvest Housing Group, wanted to recognise the city’s cultural diversity and after the fantastic success of yesterday’s Multicultural Celebration, they now plan to make it an annual landmark event.
Lorna Powell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Manchester & District, comments:
“The incredible mix of different ethnic groups that we have here in Manchester gives the city a real vibrancy and energy, and we wanted to celebrate these qualities by bringing together our multi-racial community and acknowledge their contribution to the city. ”
She adds:
“There was a real party atmosphere to the day and it was a wonderful chance to meet local people. A great day was had by all and it really was a tremendous success.”
A large number of Trafford’s community were involved in the celebrations, with entertainment provided by Old Trafford After School Dance Club, and Thai Kick Boxing Group, G-Camp. Catering was provided by local business Mosam’s Bakery, and Trafford Asian Women’s Club, Greater Manchester Police, local church members and the head of the local Mosque all attended.
