The New Year has got off to a ‘green’ start for residents throughout Hyndburn who have been busy recycling their Christmas trees.

The scheme, funded by local housing association, Eaves Brook, a member of Harvest Housing Group, collected approximately 4 tonnes of Christmas trees between 10 –17 January, which will now be used for compost.

To implement the recycling collections, Eaves Brook teamed up with Hyndburn Borough Council, who supplied the equipment needed and organised the manpower.

Abi Winstanley, Neighbourhood Manager for Eaves Brook comments:

“The recycling initiative has been absolutely fantastic. Residents have responded really well and it’s solved the problem of how to easily dispose of unwanted Christmas trees, while helping the environment at the same time.”

All residents had to do was to leave their tree at their usual waste collection point where they were collected each day and taken to Whinney Hill in Accrington to be composted along with the green waste.

The average collection was ½ a tonne a day and Eaves Brook along with Hyndburn Borough Council would like to thank all of you who made this year’s Christmas recycling a big success.
