> Harvest Career Drive for Local Pupils
Students at Alder Grange College in Rossendale are being given a helping hand by a local housing association, when it comes to getting a foot on the career ladder.
Harvest Housing Group, parent company of Lancashire-based Eaves Brook, who operate throughout Hyndburn and Rossendale are transport sponsors of SkillCity, the region’s largest innovative and interactive careers show. The show is held annually at Manchester’s G-MEX Centre, and Harvest Housing Group are funding the transport in their areas to enable as many 13-19 year olds as possible from across the North West to meet potential employers from a range of industries including construction, healthcare, retail, engineering, tourism and hospitality.
Lynda Murawski, Marketing Manager of Harvest Housing Group says of the company’s decision to sponsor the event:
“The opportunities that SkillCity presents from local and national employers as well as learning and training providers, and colleges and universities are exceptional and we want to ensure that the young people from our neighbourhoods have the chance to see what’s available to them, discuss their options and have their questions answered.”
SkillCity North West is highly interactive, with live demonstrations and ‘hands-on’ activity open to visitors, including a parachute jump and flight simulator provided by the RAF, live cookery demonstrations and fashion shows, a wheel changing competition for any budding mechanics and boxing training and a penalty shoot-out, all of which are just a few examples of what’s on offer.
Harvest Housing Group are providing the transport for more than 1,000 pupils across the North West to attend the show as part of their further commitment to the wider community and investment in the future.
