> Multi-Cultural Celebration in Old Trafford
For the 2nd consecutive year, Manchester & District Housing Association hosted a Multi-Cultural Celebration at the Shrewsbury Street Community Centre in Old Trafford.
It was designed by M & D, a member of Harvest Housing Group to recognise the city’s cultural diversity and following the fantastic success of last year’s celebration, it has become an annual landmark event in their calendar.
Lorna Powell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Manchester & District comments:
“The incredible mix of different ethnic groups that we have here in
Manchester gives the city a real vibrancy and energy, and we wanted to celebrate these qualities by bringing together our multi-racial community and acknowledge their contribution to the city.”
Entertainment during the day included an Indian Dancer, singing, a steel band, Dholak and Quinto drums, and a Thai Kickboxing display from local group, The G-Camp.
Kickboxing has proved to be an extremely popular activity in the area but can be expensive so as part of the Multicultural Celebration, Manchester & District Housing Association have secured sponsorship from local businesses so that young people can benefit from a year’s coaching.
Local businesses that have provided this sponsorship are PMK Limited, O.P Building Maintenance Services, ROK Property Solutions & Argonauts Incentives Ltd.
Lorna Powell says:
“Parents can’t always afford to pay for their children to take part in sports and other activities, so it’s fantastic that these companies have stepped in with the necessary funds to enable these young people to get involved.”
She adds
“We are always looking for new sponsors, as the more we have the more young people will benefit.”
On the day young people from Seymour Park School joined with The G-Camp to try a taster of what they will learn over the coming 12 months.
