> Harvest & Shelter Unite for Good Practice
Registered social landlord (RSL), Harvest Housing Group have teamed up with housing and homelessness charity Shelter, to examine how RSLs can best work with young people to create sustainable and cohesive communities, combat antisocial behaviour, encourage social inclusion and build self-esteem.
Their efforts have culminated in a new good practice guide, How registered social landlords can work with young people, which includes the best ideas from Harvest Housing Group and other social housing providers.
Paul Seymour, Director of Service Development at Harvest Housing Group said:
“Working with young people is extremely important to the Harvest vision; we have already produced a Youth Investment Strategy to engage our young people and are delighted to be working with Shelter to evaluate our progress and further develop our aims.”
Shelter Director, Adam Sampson said:
“This guide aims to encourage registered social landlords to get involved with young people at and early stage in their lives and to maintain a commitment to them as they grow and develop. Shelter believes this will help young people to engage with their neighbourhoods and make a positive contribution to community life.”
As the Good Practice Guide recognises, RSLs are now more deeply involved in community life than ever before and will be playing a wider role in meeting the needs and aspirations of young people in the future.
Harvest Housing Group aims to help young people fulfil their potential, improve their image with other residents and aid community cohesion, as well as looking at ways to best meet their housing needs.
The Good Practice Guide looks at the youth initiatives that Harvest Housing Group is developing, focuses on the strategic thinking needed to include young people at all levels of the community and gives examples of how partnerships can work most effectively
