Joint press release issued by Harvest Housing Group and Moorlands Housing.

Moorlands Housing are pleased to announce, following careful consideration, its intention to join Harvest Housing Group.

Moorlands Housing was established in 2001 for the stock transfer from Staffordshire Moorlands Council.  In the last five years, Moorlands has made great progress in delivering its transfer promises and improving its 2,900 homes.  Moorlands wants to build on this success and maximise its future contribution to meeting housing needs and neighbourhood regeneration for local communities in Staffordshire and surrounding areas.  Joining Harvest will be the way to achieve this.

Bob Duncalf, Moorlands’ Chief Executive said:

“Moorlands will remain a locally focused organisation but will gain in strength from being part of Harvest.  We will still have our own Board and senior management team but will also be represented on the Group Board.  As part of Harvest, we will be able to draw on Group resources to deliver local affordable housing to help meet the increasing demand.”

Moorlands’ decision was welcomed by Ian Perry, Harvest’s Chief Executive:

“This is a brave decision and a forward thinking one.  Moorlands will bring new opportunities to the Group. We have specialist skills and expertise but firmly believe in local delivery and accountability.  Together, we have the potential to make a big impact in Staffordshire, south Cheshire, Derbyshire and across the West Midlands.”

The Moorlands’ Board decision is the first stage in a process which will involve consultation with customers, Staffordshire Moorlands Council and staff, with the aim of obtaining approval from the Housing Corporation and an implementation target of March 2007.
