> R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Allerdale Youngsters
Derwent & Solway Housing Association, Allerdale Rugby League Service Area and Workington Town Community Development Foundation will be visiting schools throughout Allerdale next week, to deliver citizenship classes to pupils as part of the government’s Respect agenda.
D & S have teamed up with Allerdale & Carlise Service Area (ACSA) to promote the agenda’s core values to young people in the area over the next 3 years. These include:
· Responsible
· Encouraging
· Sporting
· Positive
· Enjoyable
· Considerate
· Tolerant
Over the past 4 weeks, rugby coaches at ACSA & Workington Town Community Development Foundation carried out training sessions in line with the Respect code of conduct. These will culminate in the classroom lessons held by D & S and the rugby coaches next week.
Colette Small, one of the Neighbourhood Regeneration Officers from Derwent & Solway, who will be holding some of the classes, says:
“We will be teaching young people how value,s like teamwork and ownership that they have learnt over the past few weeks, can translate into everyday life out in the community”.
Jon Roper, Allerdale Rugby League Development Officer who put together the ‘Go Forward’ programme says:
“It is important the Respect message is presented in a fun and accessible way and I hope that everyone who has taken part will feel that they have gained something really worthwhile.”
A total of 21 schools are taking part in the ‘Go Forward’ programme including St Mary’s in Harrington, St Patrick’s in Maryport and Westfield Juniors in Workington.
The rugby coaches involved in the project are from Workington Town Community Development Foundation, Netherhall Sports College, Maryport ARLFC, Seaton Rangers, Salterbeck Storm and Glasson Rangers.
