Manchester & District Housing Association, who are co-ordinating the Old Trafford in Bloom initiative are hoping that the community will support them in helping to keep Old Trafford clean, tidy and bright.

Lorna Powell, the Project Coordinator who works for Manchester & District says:

“People living or working in Old Trafford, who want to support us don’t have to attend meetings or get involved. Everyone can do their bit just by hanging a basket of flowers, binning their litter and perhaps displaying one of our stickers to say that they support Old Trafford in Bloom.”

Old Trafford in Bloom were responsible for last week’s Bloomin’ Potty event funded by the Action Earth Environment Agency. Young people were encouraged to design wacky plant pots using recycled materials, while mums and dads created their own hanging baskets now seen bringing an array of colour to the area.

Old Trafford in Bloom has been working in the borough for 2 years with tenants, residents and stakeholders to improve Old Trafford’s environment. They have developed the largest wildflower meadow in the North West, a sensory map and a recycling centre, and have been actively involved with Groundwork to improve the area around the triangle. They have also been involved in everything from clean-up days and skip drives to community fun-days and garden competitions.

Their aim is improve the whole of Old Trafford for everyone, and are asking the community to help by saying NO to fly-tipping, YES to recycling, YES to making Old Trafford cleaner, greener and safer, and to make it an award-winning borough in 2006.

If anyone is interested in becoming involved in Old Trafford in Bloom then please call Lorna Powell at Manchester & District Housing Association on 0161 912 4671.
