> D & S Lead Successful Crime Operation
Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group operating in West Cumbria, have teamed up with local police to take the lead on Operation Robot in Maryport, which has seen burglary and crime levels drop in the last 6 months.
The aim of the new operation is to tackle drug-related offences, targeting low to medium level drug users, who turn to petty crime to feed their habits. The results have been extremely promising.
In the past 6 months following the launch of the operation last November, the number of reported thefts and burglaries was down by 100 on the previous 6 months. 35 property raids have been carried out and 65 arrests have also been made.
As part of the operation, Derwent and Solway Housing Association has secured 4 Anti Social Behaviour Injunctions, 3 Anti Social Behaviour Orders (one of which resulted in a 3-month prison sentence for one offender) and 1 eviction. They also have 2 further actions pending for serious anti social behaviour and drug related crime.
Robert Porter, Director of Derwent & Solway said:
“We are really pleased with the results, which go to show the impact we are having within the community. Working in partnership with Maryport Police is having a real affect in and around our neighbourhoods and we will continue to build on what has already been achieved.”
The ongoing success of the operation is a team effort and highlights the importance of partnerships and associations in the fight against antisocial behaviour. Operation Robot will continue its efforts to bring a positive affect on crime levels in the area.
