> Local Youth Conference Shortlisted For Award
Local housing association Eaves Brook, a member of Harvest Housing Group, has been shortlisted for a top industry award after the success of its Youth Conference last October, which saw youngsters from Hyndburn, Rossendale and Burnley present their thoughts on HMRF and regeneration across East Lancashire.
Eaves Brook has been shortlisted for the prestigious Neighbourhood Awards, held by the National Housing Federation, in the Local Engagement and Involvement category. Members of the Group will attend the finals at the Birmingham ICC on September 21, presented by TV personality, Eamonn Holmes.
Abi Winstanley, Neighbourhood Manager at Eaves Brook comments:
“We are thrilled to be shortlisted amongst such strong competition, especially for such an important project. It is vital that our young people’s needs and opinions are taken into account when discussing and planning the future of our towns. Hopefully we have been a positive catalyst in allowing their views to be considered seriously and will continue to work with them and for them towards our long-term goals.”
The Youth Conference, held on 26 October 2005, gave 200 young people the opportunity to put questions to local councillors and representatives from Elevate and CABE (Commission for Architecture in the Built Environment) and voice their own thoughts about the changing face of East Lancashire.
They also presented their work about regeneration in a variety of lively and entertaining ways including rap, film and a news report.
The Neighbourhood Awards are held by the National Housing Federation as part of its iN business for neighbourhoods programme, which raises the profile and improves the performance of housing associations. Over 300 entries were submitted to the Awards this year from housing associations across the country.
