In response to reports in several national newpapers at the weekend that key workers are being increasingly priced out of the market, Harvest Housing Group, a registered social landlord providing affordable housing across the North West, want to reassure that progress is being made.

Ian Perry, Chief Executive of Harvest Housing Group said:

“Providing affordable homes for key workers is a major priority for us as we are very much aware of the difficulties facing first time buyers, and have a long term plan to provide more affordable housing and key worker accommodation then ever before.

We are also investing heavily in the Section 106 programme.”

Harvest Housing Group are instrumental in Resolve 106, a joint venture with Nord LB and Chaco Ltd. to provide affordable housing across the UK, handling every part of the process from land purchase and planning permission, to management and the eventual private sale of the home.

Ian Perry adds:

“Resolve 106 was set up in response to the great need for affordable housing nationwide and the mix of skills that each company brings ensures an efficient and pro-active solution.”

Harvest Housing Group itself has recently instructed further affordable housing sites in Keighley and the Wirral, while properties are being reserved by local people for a scheme near completion in Lymm, Cheshire.

Rachel Gifford, a teacher from Lymm is one such resident whose application for affordable housing is currently being processed. She comments:

“This is the only way as a single person that I would be able to get on the property ladder and it’s great news that schemes like this exist. I think they are a brilliant idea and are working really well in helping people like me to purchase homes that would otherwise be out of our reach.”

Existing affordable housing schemes that have so far been successful for the Group reside in areas such as affluent Chapelsford in Warrington and for NHS workers in the likes of Chester, Chorley and Warrington.

Harvest Housing Group recognise the need and importance to support keyworkers and first time buyers in particular and continue in their progress to supply more and more affordable homes for this section of the workforce.
