> A Harvest of Information at Tenants’ Conference
When it comes to evaluating and improving their role as affordable housing providers, Harvest Housing Group are streets ahead, turning directly to their tenants for feedback.
Held on Friday 31st March at Haydock Park, the Harvest Housing Group Tenants’ Conference brought together more than 200 of the organisation’s tenants from across the North West to provide information on the Group and its subsidiaries* and to assess performance and identify areas to develop.
Paul Seymour, Service Development Director at Harvest Housing Group commented: “It’s of no use to simply look at the Group’s performance from head office, we need to get on the ground and speak to the people that matter.”
The conference was split into two main areas. The first was a series of interactive stalls to provide information on the Group’s services and future plans. The ‘Bat the Rat’ stall was a treasure-island based task looking at the practical issue of income and collection, while ‘Jiant Jenga’ showcased demolition and refurbishment; even Harvest Housing Group’s Chief Executive, Ian Perry was involved in a nail-biting round of the game, even getting on the floor at one point to remove a piece!
In addition, tenants were invited to supply comments by way of the ‘Harvest Suggestion Tree’, the ‘Graffiti Wall’ and the vox-pop booth.
The 2nd area of the conference was workshop-based focusing on 2 main topics: Community Safety and Decent Homes.
Ian Perry said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to have direct contact with our tenants and we wanted to provide the information in an accessible and interesting way.”
With a theme based on ‘a day at the races’, and a number of prizes up for grabs the Tenants’ Conference proved to be as enjoyable as it was informative for both the tenants and Harvest Housing Group representatives.
They are now monitoring comments and suggestions put forward and will look at ways to take Harvest Housing Group forward in the future.
Just some of the comments made by Harvest Housing Group tenants about their landlord:
“If Harvest were a car it would be a Volkswagen – very reliable”.
“My neighbourhood has improved 110% in the past 5 years”.
“I have lived here for 10 years and seen continuous improvement”.
“Harvest is good at getting people involved and helping the community to help themselves”.
“We never thought that getting involved could be so much fun”.
“The Harvest Group people listen which is nice – it makes it feel that your opinions matter”.
