Ardwick’s Housing Consortium Grove Village are so proud of one local resident that they have put her forward for the Government’s Taking a Stand Awards, which recognises the commitment of people who have made real improvements in their local community.
This very deserving resident from Ardwick, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been nominated by Grove Village for her commitment to helping make the community in which she lives a safer place, despite being subject to a number of threats herself and the victim of vandalism to her home.
This individual has worked closely with the Grove Village Community Safety Team to tackle antisocial behaviour, offer support to neighbours who have been victims of crime and has also developed opportunities for young people to become involved in positive activities and drive them away from anti-social behaviour.
Chris Mairs, the Community Safety Case Management Officer for Grove Village who put this nomination forward said:
“This resident shows how we can work effectively in partnership with our residents. She works tirelessly to ensure that the neighbourhood is safe and secure for everybody and is a real source of strength for other residents who have suffered crime or nuisance.
Not many are willing to fight against antisocial behaviour but this lady is special. She continues to fight and expects no recognition in return.”
Requesting to remain anonymous, this lady was thrilled to be put forward for the award, and to be recognised as a valued resident in her community.
As a member of the Residents Association, this motivated and community driven individual has also played a key role in the development of a regeneration project to ‘design crime out’ of the area, which is already having a positive impact with the numbers of reported crime and antisocial behaviour down since it was implemented.
Chris Mairs adds:
“Her devotion to others is amazing and her volunteer work for the benefit of others deserves to be acknowledged.”
If successful, she will receive £1,000 to help in her fight against antisocial behaviour. It would go towards delivering diversionary activities for young people, parent support sessions, and community awards to recognise other fantastic residents who Grove Village are lucky to have.
