Local young people are celebrating after the Partington & Carrington Youth Partnership (PCYP) was named the winner of a Government, Taking a Stand award.

The PCYP has been recognised for its contribution towards tackling antisocial behaviour and was formed after a number of local agencies recognised the link between the lack of facilities for young people and antisocial behaviour and set about to find a solution.

The solution was PCYP, which offers a diverse range of activities for young people of all ages.

Vicki Heyes from Harvest Housing Group, who nominated the Partnership for the award said:

“I’m absolutely delighted for all the people involved in the PCYP – we all are. The difference the PCYP has made is incredible and the award is thoroughly deserved. Fighting antisocial behaviour is an ongoing battle, which sometimes lowers community morale. However the younger people are having so much fun – they’re involved and responsive and community life is all the better for it.”

PCYP runs activities such as Urban Leisure, driving theory courses, 5-a-side football and also has teams in the Greater Manchester table tennis and pool championships. They also hold day trips and residentials in the school holidays to places throughout the North West.

On hearing news of the award, Pete Wallroth, Secretary of the PCYP and Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Partington Housing Association said:

“It’s fantastic that the work of the PCYP has been acknowledged at a national level. We’re working with really great young people and I’m proud of everything they are achieving through the Partnership.”

This isn’t the first time that the PCYP has been in line for an award. In November they were runners up in Harvest Housing Group’s Montgomery Community Awards and received prize money of £1,000, which is funding the Partington Youth Festival, 10 – 13 April which will see 4 fun-packed days of activities and events for the area’s young people.

The PCYP will receive their Taking a Stand Award on 19 April in Birmingham and will receive a cheque for £1000 to further tackle antisocial behaviour in Partington.
