Residents in Manchester are benefiting from a free and improved tool-borrowing scheme. The scheme, which has been running for a couple of years, now provides in-house tools such as wallpaper strippers, alongside those for the garden.
All Manchester & District Housing tenants are invited to hire garden and household tools free of charge! Furthermore, Estate Officers from M&D will deliver and collect the tools after a week for the resident’s convenience.
The equipment available consist of lawn mowers, wheelbarrows, yard brushes, shovels, spades, shears, a lawn edge cutter, rakes (leaf and heavy duty), trowels, a garden vac turbo, forks (large and small), and telescopic handled grass edgers. The new tools available for the home include a power jet wash, cordless drill, wallpaper stripper, and carpet cleaner.
M & D Neighbourhood Manager Sue Riley comments;
“Our ‘tool hire’ initiative is proving to be very popular amongst the residents. Gardening and household equipment is expensive, so this is an ideal way for people to save money, but at the same time maintain their homes.”
So far, the scheme has increased awareness amongst a growing number of residents, developing a sense of pride in the neighbourhood environment.
