Partington Youth Festival, organised by Partington & Carrington Youth Partnership (PCYP), ran successfully during the Easter Holidays with young people from the area taking part in a number of activities between 10 – 13 April.
Events were funded and publicised with prize money from the Harvest Housing Group Montgomery Awards, awarded to Partington Housing Association tenants earlier this year for their contribution to the neighbourhood and working with young people. They were awarded £1000 to develop the success of the Partnership and decided to put it towards an Easter-break festival.
Lady Joyce Montgomery, Patron of Harvest Housing Group, and for whom the Montgomery awards were named said:
“I was delighted to see the money awarded to the PCYP as the work they do is tremendous. It has been fantastic to see just how many young people have benefited from the prize fund and I wish them all every success in their future endeavours.”
Throughout the four fun-filled days, Partington was alive with activity as young people utilised facilities such as the Oak Road Family Centre, Screamin Wheels Skate Park and Football Pitches at Cross Lane and the Youth Centre
Activities included a range of sports such as a five-a-side tournament, Family Fun Day, BMX Racing Competition and Why Don’t You 3! – multi sport event including skateboarding, BMX stunts, dodgeball as well as family entertainment, music, arts and dance.
Mark Edwards, Youth Development Worker at PHA/TMBC Sports Development and a key member of the PCYP, who helped organise the Festival said:
“The whole week has worked really well and everyone had a great time. It’s important that there are facilities in place for our young people and the Youth Festival is a prime example of them being engaged and interested and achieving so much.”
