When the British public were questioned recently about which life event they found most stressful, moving home came out top, so Frontis tenant Phyllis Gaunt has come up with a great way to make the transition a little smoother for new Frontis residents.
Phyllis of Locking Stumps recently approached the Community Champions Fund, set up by the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) to help provide support for people wanting to improve their community, and was awarded £870 to set up the “Friends of Birchwood”.
Resident Phyllis Gaunt kindly said:
“The first thing you want when you get into your new home is a decent hot drink and the last thing you want is to have to empty every box looking for the tea and sugar so Friends of Birchwood has been set up to make things a little easier.”
The ‘Friends of Birchwood’ will welcome each new Frontis tenant with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar and a ‘welcome to your new home’ card.
Bernadette Bell, Frontis Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer said;
“This is a wonderful idea that Phyllis has come up with. Moving into a new area can be quite daunting but to be welcomed by a friendly face is sure to take some of the stress away.”
Not only will new tenants receive a welcome pack they will also be supplied with details about what is on in the Birchwood area, where the shops are, details on public transport and many more pieces of local information that will help them to settle in.
