> Frontis Charity Sale & Football Match
Saturday 26 May saw local residents enjoy a day of double fun as they raised money for Oakwood Local Park with a charity car boot sale and charity football match kicked off by Warrington Wolves captain, Lee Briers.
The events were organised by local housing association Frontis and the Friends of Oakwood Local Park, who formed for the specific purpose of generating funds to build a play area for children in Birchwood on the area of land next to the Nelsons Quarterdeck pub.
The events were held to coincide with European Neighbours Day on Tuesday 29 May, when communities across the EC celebrated the good work going on in and around their neighbourhoods.
Bernadette Bell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Frontis said:
“We had a great day. The level of support for the local park is really encouraging and just goes to show what a wonderful community spirit there is here in Oakwood.
She adds:
“A big thank you to Warrington Wolves as well who continue to support our work and particularly to Lee Briers who volunteered his time to make the day a memorable occasion for all of us! ”
After Lee did the honours by kicking off the charity football match, it was played in good spirits by local residents (with only one red card!) and with an unknown final score, as everyone was too busy enjoying the game!
The events raised just over £300 for Oakwood Local Park and will now go towards making the plans for the play area a reality. Frontis and the Friends of Oakwood Local Park wish to extend their thanks to everyone who made the day such a huge success.
