> Grove Village Demonstrates its Leading Credentials
Grove Village in Ardwick, Manchester, has been branded a national leader by an industry body that showcases the country’s most forward thinking developments.
The £100 million housing PFI project is among five developments to be awarded Demonstration Project status by the national organisation, Constructing Excellence.
Grove Village Limited is transforming the inner city estate of Plymouth Grove into a thriving mixed tenure urban village, minutes away from Manchester city centre, through an intensive programme of refurbishment, regeneration and new build properties for sale.
The latest success means the project, which was the first housing PFI in the country, will now be used by Constructing Excellence as a national example of best practice in their campaign to raise standards across the construction industry.
The Grove Village project is being delivered by a partnership between Harvest Housing Group, MJ Gleeson Group plc and Nationwide Building Society, for Manchester City Council.
Ian Perry, Chairman of Grove Village Ltd and Chief Executive of Harvest Housing, said: “We’re proud of our work here and delighted that, once again, it has been recognised.
“Being one of the first such housing initiatives of its kind in the country, we know the benefits that innovation and partnership working can bring to communities.
“Being named as a Demonstration Project allows us to take this approach to a whole new level, and work with organisations across the industry to raise building standards nationally.”
Last year, Grove Village was invited to a showcase learning event established by the North West Development Agency and Government Office Northwest, to share good practice and learning with its regeneration peers in the region. It was also crowned Best Housing-led Regeneration project in the Manchester Evening News Property Awards.

The panel assessing that application were impressed with the team's commitment to the creation of a sustainable community at Plymouth Grove and, as the first housing PFI project recognised that there are a number of lessons to be learnt from the scheme. We look forward to working with the team in future to capture the learning coming from the project.”
