Local housing association Frontis, in partnership with building firm Rok, Durose and Gourlay, has completed the first phase of an exciting new project to convert hard-to-let flats into larger properties in Birchwood.

The first phase has involved the conversion of fourteen bed-sits on Ramsay Close, Noble Close, Leatham Close and Whitworth Close into seven two-bedroom flats.

The conversions are being carried out to meet the requirements of modern living as family units now regularly include for example, single parents and divorcees with child access who would essentially need more space that the original bed-sits would allow.

Jacqui Holmes, Neighbourhood Manager at Frontis said:

“Birchwood has an over-supply of one-bed properties and bed-sits and it is important that we meet the needs of local people by providing more spacious living.”

Each flat has been designed with additional space in mind, creating a light, airy feel with two good size bedrooms, bathroom and a kitchen diner with fitted units.

Rok Durose and Gourlay Contracts Manager, Steve Taylor said:

“Rok Durose and Gourlay is proud to have played its part in providing these modern homes for the Birchwood area. Work has started on the second phase of this exciting project and we will continue to develop our excellent partnership with Frontis over the coming months in order to deliver high standards of accommodation for local people.”
