Good neighbour and Birchwood Town Councillor, John Keeney is continuing in his efforts to improve community life in the area and is providing local people with the opportunity to socialise and get fit for free.
Just months after receiving £1000 from the Montgomery Community Awards for his work with Oakwood Local Park Working Group, to transform the land in the centre of Oakwood into a community haven, he has been recognised again.
John Keeney has received a £500 grant to set up a walking group in the area to encourage people out of their homes to enjoy the many green and open spaces in Birchwood. The grant comes from the DIY Community Action Small Grant Programme at Trafford Hall funded by the John Laing Charitable Trust.
The walking club is run by the Friends of Oakwood Local Park to encourage community spirit and fitness among local people and anyone interested in joining should contact Bernadette Bell at Frontis on 01925 856 680.
The walks will all take place locally in and around Birchwood, including Oakwood Local Park.
