A new way for allocating affordable homes in Preston and South Ribble is being launched this week.

Select Move is a partnership between local housing association, Eaves Brook, South Ribble Borough Council, Preston Council, and three other social landlords, New Progress, Community Gateway Association and Adactus Housing Association.

The partnership has been formed to ensure the letting process for affordable homes is simpler and fairer, providing a far wider choice of properties available across a larger area. Applicants will now be able to choose from the full Select Move portfolio as opposed to one housing provider.

Peter Jackson, Service Development Manager for Eaves Brook said:

“All existing applicants on Eaves Brook’s successful Homechoice website will be transferred to the new scheme, so they will not need to reapply.

It’s also worth noting that Homechoice will continue to be used for Eaves Brook allocations outside of Preston and South Ribble.”

Select Move has been created in response to the Government’s pledge to give social housing customers more choice and control over where they live and intends that all local authorities will have adopted a choice-based lettings system, similar to Select Move by 2010.

Peter Jackson adds:

“We’re pleased that we have been able to respond to feedback from the Government swiftly to ensure that social housing tenants in Preston and South Ribble have full access to these improvements immediately.”
