Councillor Pauline Nelson will be among shoppers making a wish at Birchwood Shopping Mall this Saturday (18 August) when a special wishing well will be set up by the Friends of Oakwood Local Park.
Shoppers will be invited to take part in the traditional past-time of throwing coins into the well while wishing for their hearts desire, with all the money raised going toward the local park in Oakwood.
The Friends of Oakwood Local Park, chaired by Councillor Nelson, was set up last year by a group of residents hoping to create a community haven in their neighbourhood and the land on Admirals Road, at the heart of homes owned and managed by local housing association Frontis, will hopefully also provide a play area for the youngest neighbours if enough money can be raised.
Bernadette Bell, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer at Frontis said:
“Our biggest wish of all is that families in Oakwood have a place to enjoy, and somewhere children can play safely. We’re asking anyone shopping in Birchwood on Saturday to visit the wishing well and help make this wish come true.”
The wishing well will be at Birchwood Shopping Mall this Saturday and there will also be the chance to win some wonderful prizes on the tombola.
